Watch a slideshow of pictures from the Kansas City Star. We are a small, family-owned farm dedicated to enriching the human-horse bond for the developmentally disabled, the elderly, children, and for anyone who loves horses.
We do this by sharing our horses with others. We have a miniature horse named Black Jack that seems to have a sixth sense for people. As we gently place Black Jack's head in the lap of a person in a wheelchair, their hand is raised to stroke the face of this little 400-pound creature who takes them to a place of calmness and memories. This is something we didn't teach Black Jack. We treasure these moments and fell blessed to have such a special horse, with this wonderful gift, in our lives and those of others.
Our favorite phrase is: "Pay it forward" It all begins with doing a favor for another person -- without any expectation of being paid back. Rather than accepting a payback for the favor, request that the recipient of that favor do the same for someone else: ideally for three other people. The random acts of kindness can be large or small. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It can just seem that way, depending on who you do it for.
